Communication privacy management is integral to human relationships.

Sandra Petronio devoted more than four decades to understanding how people manage their personal private information, through study, research, teaching, mentoring, and engaging with people. Over those years she developed Communication Privacy Management (CPM) Theory. This website shares much of the work that grew out of CPM Theory.

At Professor Petronio’s death in April 2024 she left not only the theory, but also a new book in final draft. As a theorist she always wanted people to use, test, and refine CPM and continue to advance our collective understanding of human communication and privacy management.

To that end, Professor Petronio established the IU Indianapolis Petronio CPM Dissertation Fellowship to support a doctoral student’s completion of their dissertation.
